I don't know why I haven't been here for a while. I suppose it's because I've been busy. Six times over recent weeks I have spent the day in London as a dermatology/rheumatology patient. Because it's at Guy's Hospital, by London Bridge, it's a looooong day. I have to get the train just after 7am. If you know anything about me you'll know that I'm really not a morning person. No, really not a morning person. Having said that, I have been coping much better than say this time last year. I still get very very tired at times, but either I'm managing to pace myself better, or my energy levels are getting better.
The thing about going up to London Bridge regularly is that over time I have seen the Shard come out of the ground. Now I think of it, they started work when I was still working in London. That's a while ago now!
On the course, tea, coffee, biscuits and lunch are all provided. But staying indoors all day on a sunny day is really not much fun, so I get outside at lunchtime if I can. One day I sat in this spot...
And looked up at this:
You don't get much idea of the sheer enormousness (huh?) of the Shard from down here but it dwarfs everything, especially Southwark Cathedral which is really close by. You can imagine when it was built (1106-1897) it was the hugest structure anyone had seen but now.....
On a completely different note, I have been walking as much as my joints and energy levels allow. One day spent in Watford with Claire, we walked so much further than I ever thought - 6kms! Luckily, interspersed with a lot of sitting down in coffee shops haha. Look:
You can tell from this picture just where the shopping centre is situated, can't you? That last dot, where the 6 is, is where we gave up and got a taxi home...
Well that's all for now. I'm off to bed. I really hope I'll keep the blog a bit more up to date but don't quote me on that!
