I learnt something new yesterday. I woke up with that tingling feeling, and no it wasn't excitement it was a cold sore blooming on my upper lip. So I got to work and whinged a bit, as you do, and one of my new colleagues (one of the lovely ones not one of the nasties...) told me that I should make a paste with some bicarbonate of soda and apply that. So I did last night, and my goodness it really has helped! It didn't hurt as much as it normally would today, so I'm applying a bit more tonight, although I confess it is stinging somewhat as I type, so I'll be washing it off soon. You leave it on for about 10 mins and it helps with the healing process. And to think I nearly spent £6 on a new tube of Zovirax at the weekend, pah! Give me an old wives' remedy any day :)
And talking of oldies - not wishing to be disrespectful or anything - I went to visit my new "little old lady" through the Age Concern visiting scheme after work today. I used to visit a lady in my old town and when she passed away a few years ago I decided to give up volunteering for a while as I commuted to work 3 hours each day which completely left me an empty shell incapable of anything else. Anyway, recently I signed up again and was assigned a new lady in my road but she ended up being moved to a hospice before I could visit. So last week I was told about a rather lovely lady of 96 who wanted a visitor. I walked over there after work and we had the loveliest chat for about an hour (she made a wicked cup of tea), until her son popped in on his way to football. I think the only time he comes to see her is when he's coming to a match as we live near the stadium... I shall be popping in once a week, because she says that sometimes she doesn't see anyone for days at a time. How sad is that? She used to be a dressmaker and she is sad that over the past 6 months or so she hasn't been able to sew or knit any more, and she likes to be active rather than sit and watch TV, bless her.
After my visit I came home to a delicious aroma of chicken that the boyf was cooking for dinner. He likes to season things well and let meat marinade for ages, and he's right, it really does improve the flavour... I could get used to this; coming home and putting my feet under the table? Mmmmmm!!
If you like your meals to be prepared for you.. come and stay at the house. I will do that for you. How nice of you to volunteer. I bet that lady appreciates your kindness. So.. how was the chicken?. Gros bisous. Moi.

What a lovely thing to do. You've inspired me a bit, I'm going to go and see if they need anybody to do that sort of thing where I live, as it sounds like something really worthwhile.

That is one of the nicest things people can do. I'm sure the lady truly appreciates that! Sorry I'm late in whishing you a happy birthday this year Jen. I hope you had a fun day!
