You might not know this, but "back in the day" I had very low self-esteem. I think that's why I married and put up with the person I did! Anyway, I credit Jack Canfield with getting me on track with his course, "Self-esteem and Peak Performance", over 20 years ago. You can still buy it if you google him.... He was one of the contributors to The Secret, by the way.
Anyway, today I was reading an article in a coaching magazine, and it reminded me of how far I've come. It wasn't that well written; in fact it kind of just repeated a whole load of personal development stuff that I've read hundreds of times elsewhere. Still, it reminded me that not everyone is lucky enough to have come to the realisation that they are worthwhile people and that "what other people think of you is none of your business".
In another issue, I read a great article by a guy called Nick Williams, called "Stop resisting your success". That one really spoke to me because he mentioned a quote by Anais Nin who wrote "and the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom". How true! It's how I felt when I found the courage to divorce my husband and also when I moved from France to the UK, with no help at all, with my small child under my arm. People said "you're so brave" but what they were really saying was "I couldn't do that". And my reply to them was that I just had to do it. It was just meant to be. Anais was right: it slowly became more painful to stay than to step out and face the unknown. So I did it. And both times it was the best thing I could have done. So if any of you are resisting change that you know deep down you should be embracing, then leave me a comment or email me and I'll send you a pdf of the article. It could open your eyes. See, I want everyone to be happy and in control of their own lives!
I'll finish with a link to one of my anthems, "Video" by India Arie. Listen carefully to the words and SMILE!!
