I know I should be doing the filing or something, but most of my work is done so I checked out a few blogs while I was trying to phone the insurers for el jefe... anyway, I came across the work of the wonderfully whimsical Susan Branch (did you like the alliteration there?), which is making me wish I was at the beach already because she has a house on Martha's Vineyard. Sigh. I went looking for her books on Amazon, and I love that you can see inside them. That's my very favourite thing about that website - it's nearly as good as being in a bookshop. On one of her pages, she has written part of a poem that I loved from an old Elton John film soundtrack. Here it is in full:
I Meant To Do My Work Today
by Richard LeGallienne
I meant to do my work today,
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand,
So what could I do but laugh and go?
I love Susan Branch, she has a range of fabrics as well, although that was some time ago now!!
