A friend told me about Bookcrossing.com. Did you ever see the film Serendipity? Here's the synopsis:
Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meet by chance one day shopping for each other's mates 5 days before Christmas. They decide to spend the day together and share a romantic and fun evening that leaves Jonathan begging for Sara's number. Sara, who believes heavily in fate and destiny tests their fate in several ways, including burying her number in a book and selling it to a used book shop. If Jonathan was meant to find it, he would. Years pass, and the two haven't seen each other since that day, with both scheduled to marry other people in a close time frame. Will they meet up again?
Well, bookcrossing is:
n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.
(added to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary in August 2004)
I find this fascinating, and I am going to sign up and "release" some of my books into the wild, as they put it. While I still work at the hospital, I shall leave some in the cafeteria, or give them to the charity ladies.... and we'll see what happens. The website has pages in French and other languages, and there are books everywhere, even on Cook Island, Surinam and "international airspace". Let me know if you release any. I saw that movie a while back! And I love the concepts and ideas of bookcrossing.com I've actually released a few books "out there" too! Fun stuff. Hey, I love your new banner! Sorry I haven't had a chance to stop by in a while! It's been kind of busy lately...but I loved visiting you today :)
